Recent Paintings and Drawings
by Michael Eder and Carlyn Ekstrom

Boston area painters Mr. Eder and Ms. Ekstrom bring a fresh surge of color and light to the new gallery space at 535 Albany Street in the South End. Established yet daring talent, the pair re-invents nature motifs on canvas and paper, working in oil, acrylic and pastel. Drawing on the color and energy of his environment, Eder explores abstraction to create personal interpretations, filled with bold force, delicate gesture and boundless form. Ekstrom studies the mysteries of the environment, layering patterns and "psychological" colors to free her renderings, suggesting inadvertent complex tapestries of nature.

Accomplished in the arts, both artists have acquired awards and collections to their credit. Mr. Eder has exhibited his work abroad in Paris at the Musee Adzak as well as at galleries in NYC, New Orleans, Boston and the Attleboro Museum in MA.   He was awarded grants by the Banff Center for the Arts and First Night Boston and his work is included in many private collections. Ms. Ekstrom has a distinguished career as an artist and lecturer. She has exhibited her work throughout Massachusetts and also in New York and Sweden since 1984. Exhibitions include the Boston Printmakers Show 2003, The New Art Center Gallery in Newton, Danforth Museum in Framingham and the Federal Reserve Bank Gallery, Boston among others. Lecture engagements include those at C.G Jung Institute, Boston and Uppsala university in Sweden. Awards to her credit include several Arts Lottery grants and the Hugh Sloan Award from Mass. College of Art, among others.
