Gallery AA/B - Art Advisory/Boston, a leading resource for high quality original art, announced today the upcoming exhibition of Dr. Mark Vonnegut's recent paintings. The exhibition will be held from September 9-October 31, 2003. The Opening Reception will be held Saturday, September 27, 4 - 7 pm and will be attended by the artist. Open Studios will be held September 13 & 14, 11 am - 6 pm both days. The gallery is open to the public on Thursdays 12 - 6 pm and Fridays 11 am - 3 pm and also by appointment, please don't hesitate to call.

Looking at Mark Vonnegut's paintings, it is evident that he not only loves color but also thoroughly understands it. The physical effort of marking the paper with bold colorful gestures is almost palpable, as one imagines the quick deft strokes being applied. Dense areas of highly colored watercolor, gouache, and pastel blend with wispy minimally painted skies, resulting in exquisite tapestry-like landscape compositions. Here, high energy aesthetic meets lush landscape to convey a harmony both contemporary and serene.

Hailing from a family of noted visual artists and writers, Dr. Vonnegut, like his paintings, maintains a laid back air which upon closer observation reveals a highly creative and contagious positive energy. His admiration for the works of Sargent and Van Gogh, among other renowned painters, is evident in his engaging compositions.

Mark Vonnegut brings a refreshing perspective to an established medium and genre, with a joyful willingness to experiment and test the peculiarities of watercolor and mixed media. This is also true of his still life floral compositions, whether they are light and cheerful or brashly dramatic. This current exhibition of seventeen recent works represents an important turning point and body of work in Dr. Vonnegut's enduring painting career. The collection of paintings presents a very satisfying view into the evolution of the creative process. This exhibition leaves the viewer wanting to look again and again, to discover the many layers of detail and color within these intriguing compositions .
